MULTIDISCIPLINARY ARTIST LUISA CUESTA EXHIBITS IN THE PROECUADOR GALLERY

On Wednesday, April 24th, 2024, the multidisciplinary artist from Guayaquil, Luisa Cuesta Vallarino, presented her latest visual art piece titled "Ecuadorian Dreams/Ensueño Ecuatoriano" at the ProEcuador gallery in Manhattan, New York. The welcome cocktail was an immersive experience into the artist's world, featuring the flavors and colors of Ecuador. This collection comprised three parts:

The first part consisted of paintings created using mixed techniques and materials such as acrylic, embroidery, beads, and cross-stitch, paying homage to Ecuadorian flora and fauna from the artist's metaphysical universe. These paintings portrayed landscape details with beads symbolizing the visual identity and beauty of Ecuadorian crafts.

The second part of the exhibition showcased illustrated "ponchos" reflecting the artist's dreams during her travels and walks through deep Ecuador. Recycled coffee filters were used for these pieces, evoking the shape of the poncho, an essential element of Andean Ecuadorian attire. The filters were worked with pen, watercolor, and various embellishments like buttons and textiles.

Finally, the artist displayed a series of photographs captured over many years of travels and adventures throughout Ecuador. Landscapes, festivals, characters, gastronomy, and the colorful Ecuadorian essence were portrayed in a visual ode to the authenticity of their land.

The event was organized by the Organization for the Growth of Contemporary Ecuadorian Artists and Movement in New York – FEDMA NYC (pronounced "fedma en wai si") – and was attended by distinguished guests from the Ecuadorian community in New York, collectors, gallery owners, designers, cultural managers, writers, and art enthusiasts. Fourteen of the exhibited works are now part of private collections.

During that week, in addition to her exhibition, Luisa Cuesta had a busy schedule of important meetings with members of the artistic community in New York and cultural events. Her visit to the Big Apple concluded with a free workshop for Ecuadorian families residing in Queens, at the Ginarte Community Center, where Cuesta shared an artistic expression workshop with both children and parents in a fun family morning.

The next step in Luisa Cuesta's artistic career is a new chapter in Alicante, Spain, where the artist will establish herself for the next few years, continuing to produce for future projects in her 2024 calendar, which will once again take her traveling with her art representing Ecuador.
